Ladakh (the little Tibet) - known to the world as the land of the Buddha due to its predominantly Buddhist population, and its innumerable monasteries, and also known as the land of the moon, epitomizing its stark barren and rugged beauty. Its inhabitants are mostly of Tibetan stock, and follow the same religion as the Tibetans. Many tracts of the large land are also people by Muslims, especially around the Kargil area. Ladakh and its adjoining areas like Zanskar Valley provide excellent trekking routes, which allow you to visit the remote village in the far-flung area of these regions. The high mountain passes, monasteries, yak herds on the high slopes would all give a feeling of the land beyond.
